DESCRIPTION:
This striking, Beaux-Arts style, white-granite and steel building, was designed in 1901 by renowned bank architects Louis Moweray and Justin Affinger. The Trenton Savings Fund Society is a classic example of Beaux Arts architecture, with a symmetrical façade, grand arched entryway flanked by full-height, paired Ionic-style pilasters, and exuberant floral ornamentation. The building has been vacant for many years, and its current owner, a developer, is not maintaining it. In 2012, an elaborate security gate on the façade of the building was stolen, renewing concerns about vandalism and safety. The Trenton Saving Fund building is an important reminder of the time when Trenton’s businesses and commerce were alive and bustling and should be stabilized, repaired and reused.
