SUMMARY:Restoration Tour of Lambert Castle with AIA Newark & Suburban (AIANS)
DESCRIPTION:Join AIA Newark & Suburban (AIANS) for an exclusive tour of the recently restored Lambert Castle\, a landmark of Gilded Age architecture nestled in the City of Paterson. Led by architects Michael Hanrahan and James Giresi\, the tour will highlight the careful restoration efforts that have brought new life to this historic structure. Hanrahan and Giresi will share insights into the challenges and considerations involved in preserving the castle’s architectural integrity while adapting it for modern use. Participants will explore both the exterior and interior of the building\, gaining a behind-the-scenes look at the craftsmanship\, materials\, and design decisions that guided the restoration process. \nAIA Newark & Suburban (AIANS) is proud to collaborate with Preservation New Jersey on this special PNJ on Tour program to offer credits. The tour will be led by Michael Hanrahan\, FAIA\, Partner at Clarke Caton Hintz and past president of both AIA Central New Jersey and AIA New Jersey\, alongside James Giresi\, AIA\, Senior Associate at the firm.   \n1.5 AIA LU|HSW credits will be offered to attending architects. \n  \nAbout CCH:  Clarke Caton Hintz is an award-winning architectural\, planning\, and landscape architecture firm with over 45 years of experience providing clients with a broad multi-disciplinary approach keyed to solving today’s complex planning and design problems.  We approach planning and design as a professional collaboration and we believe that architecture\, planning\, landscape architecture\, historic preservation and interior design are fundamentally interdependent.  As creative problem solvers\, our goal is to offer attentive service and the appropriate design solution for each client.  As we search for the proper balance between aesthetics and function\, we focus on direct communication.  This interactive process between client and design professional enables us to create design solutions that fulfill our clients’ vision while meeting their financial goals.  This personal connection with our clients is at the essence of the partnership approach at Clarke Caton Hintz. \nAbout Michael Hanrahan\, AIA:  Michael Hanrahan\, AIA is a Principal with Clarke Caton Hintz.  Michael specializes in numerous project types\, including historic preservation and the adaptive reuse of historic structures\, institutional work\, and sports facilities.  As a member of the firm since 1996\, he has led the design teams for numerous historically and architecturally significant buildings.  These include the restoration of several National Historic Landmarks such as Hinchliffe Stadium and Morven\, the former governor’s mansion in Princeton; the ongoing restoration of Lambert Castle in Paterson; the recent restoration of the Hunterdon County Courthouse and Jail; and the adaptive reuse of 200 Elm Drive\, the former Boiler house for Princeton University as University office space. \nAbout James Giresi\, AIA: James Giresi is a licensed architect and Associate at Clarke Caton Hintz in Trenton\, NJ. He holds a Bachelor of Architecture and Master of Infrastructure Planning from NJIT. His experience began with a curiosity about the built environment and the process of design and construction. Throughout his career\, James has been instrumental in preserving numerous historical landmarks. His work is characterized by a commitment to preserving the original character of buildings while adapting them to modern needs. He understands that the past should not be locked in time but should evolve to serve the present and future. One of James’ most notable projects was the restoration of Belle Vista (Lambert Castle) in Paterson\, a gilded age masterpiece that had fallen into disrepair. Through painstaking research and attention to detail\, James and his team brought the mansion back to its former glory. The project garnered widespread recognition for its meticulous restoration of period-specific elements\, including ornate moldings\, stained glass\, and plasterwork.
